In The Order of Things (1966) Michel Foucault historicises how knowledge is produced from the pre-classical to the modern age. Can the way big data aims at producing knowledge in the 21st century be considered a new episteme?
About the Speaker
After getting a degree in computer science, Dr. Sami Coll received a PhD in 2010 from the University of Geneva for his dissertation on consumer surveillance. A former visiting research fellow at the City University of New York and the Surveillance Studies Centre in Kingston, he is currently a visiting professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), working on big data.
