Brandon Murray

Brandon is currently an MA student at Queen’s University. He completed his BAH at Queen’s where he was introduced to the field of surveillance studies. Brandon has worked under the supervision of Dr. David Lyon in the completion of his undergraduate thesis. In his undergraduate thesis he examined the impact that the Edward Snowden Revelations have had on contemporary surveillance and security issues, specifically understanding the role that mass surveillance plays in shaping conceptions of the self. For his MA work, Brandon is interested in examining the link between big data practices and data infrastructure. The reason it is vital to study and understand the link between data centers and big data is because they can potentially create new or reinforce existing divisions between populations.
