Anouk Mols

Visiting Student, PhD Researcher, Department of Media & Communication, Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands

 

Anouk Mols is a PhD researcher from the Department of Media & Communication at Erasmus University Rotterdam (The Netherlands). Her PhD research focuses on the daily privacy practices of users of mobile technologies. These technologies include neighbourhood watch WhatsApp groups, intelligent personal assistants, fitness/health apps and wearables. Anouk’s daily PhD supervisor is Jason Pridmore (SSC alumni), and her research is part of the project: Mapping Privacy and Surveillance Dynamics in Emerging Mobile Ecosystems: Practices and Contexts in the Netherlands and US.

 

Anouk received a Bachelor’s degree in Media Studies from the University of Amsterdam, followed by a Master’s degree in Media Studies and a research master’s degree in Sociology of Culture, Media and the Arts from the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. Apart from surveillance and privacy, her research interests include media representations, community policing and STS. She will visit the SSC for two months (September and October 2017) in order to strengthen the surveillance studies aspect of her research and to stimulate knowledge exchange.
